Wanted Volunteers for Wellesley Emergency Animal Response Team (WEART)
Our main focus is setting up a Pet Friendly emergency shelter
The pets would be house close by to the people shelter so owners could visit with and care for their
own pets.
Our second focus is setting up a separate shelter for pets that are separated from their owners and need to be cared for by volunteers.
We need volunteers willing to sit at the check-in table to register the pets upon admittance to the shelter. Others people are needed to post lost and found pets on the internet. Young strong bodies to load and unload supplies, set up and clean up the shelter. There is a great need for help doing paper work, administration, logistics, finances- many tasks that are not hands on the animals. With out these key people we can not do the direct care of the emergency shelter animals.
Volunteers are required to complete a couple on line courses ICS 100 and 700A and attend a couple of local trainings per year to become familiar with the intake forms and shelter operations.
Joining a local CERT-Citizen Emergency Response Team is a great way to gain training!
The State of Mass. Animal Response Team (SMART) also has trainings that local team members can attend.
For info on trainings and on line courses just go to the LINKS page and click on SMART
