Join the NRC’s Green Wellesley Campaign to Help Protect Wellesley’s Environment and Promote Sustainability
The NRC’s Green Wellesley Campaign advocates for sustainability by raising awareness and promoting increased environmental action. In particular, the campaign focuses on the management and stewardship of our Town’s green spaces, including its trees, wetlands and watersheds, trails, and its community garden. Additionally, the NRC advocates for energy conservation and renewable energy expansion, better stormwater management, pesticide reduction/elimination, and improved recycling and composting programs.
In particular, the Green Wellesley Campaign focuses on the following:
· Tree conservation, including the planting of 100 new trees in Wellesley every year.
· Protection of water resources through management of our ponds, including our largest water resource, Morses Pond.
· Stormwater management through the use Low Impact Development (LID) techniques such as the use of rain barrels and rain gardens on residential properties.
· Pesticide reduction through education efforts that focus on natural lawn care strategies. The NRC’s Pesticide Awareness Campaign seeks to eliminate the use of pesticides in Wellesley in order to protect the Town’s drinking water supplies, natural resources, and public health.
· Energy conservation by partnering with initiatives such as the Wellesley Municipal Light Plant’s Voluntary Renewable Energy Program.
· Waste reduction through the promotion and implementation of recycling and composting.
