The most recent Comprehensive Plan for the Town of Wellesley, completed in 1994, recommends that detailed studies be done of the several commercial villages in Town. These studies are divided into three phases. The first phase involves creating a vision for the area. The second phase involves the development of the work program and identification of actions to achieve the vision. The third phase involves the implementation of the recommended actions. For the Linden Street Study the second and third phases were combined.
The purpose of the Linden Street Study is to develop and implement a master plan for the Linden Street area. Phase I of the project began in August 2000 and was completed in January 2001. In this phase, a "vision statement" was developed to guide the town in planning for the study area. An effective public interactive process involving property owners, merchants and other lessees, residents, institutions and town officials was established in the form of a steering committee and a public forum. The Final Phase of the project began in Fall 2001.
