Trails Committee Minutes 04/28/2010
TRAIL COMMITTEE
MEETING MINUTES
April 28, 2010

Attendees:  Denny Nackoney, Joan Gaughan, Miguel Lessing, Bob White

Town Meeting approved the $250,000 request from the Community Preservation Committee to fund the first of three phases of the Fuller Brook Restoration project.  These funds will fund a survey of the Park's boundaries and 10% design drawings.  It is anticipated the phase two funds, complete designs and permitting, will be requested at the April 2011 Annual Town Meeting.  Public Hearings will be held in late summer and the fall to get more input from abutters, other Town residents, and stakeholders.  The design firm will be selected in June with an anticipated July 1 project start date.  The DPW has already started surveying and wetland delineation work in the Park.

National Development has received plan approval from the Zoning Board of Appeals for 27 Washington St, the Grossman's site.  Their plan shows an 8 foot sidewalk from Washington St to the end of the new parking lot and a 10 foot path through the green space to the river.  The path along the the river will connect with path through the DCR land to the west of 27 Washington.  National will pay for the construction of the path.   They plan to start construction this summer.   The DCR's timetable for the  railroad bridge construction has been slightly delayed.  The Department of Transportation is supervising the bidding process and they will be accepting bids until mid-May.  This is a month later than previously anticipated.

Although the NRC has not installed the three new Doggie Bag dispensers recently purchased, the Trails Committee will pay for the bags for these three dispensers as well as the three currently maintained by Trails committee members.  Note that the new dispensers use a different bag than the current three.

I have had informal conversations with the Municipal Light Board about allowing parking for walkers at the Electric Substation at the corner of Weston RD and Linden St.  Denny has provided me a proposed plan for five parking spots which I will present to the MLP Board shortly.

We will conduct a geo-caching event this fall as part of our fall program.  Details will be worked out over the next several months.

We have scheduled two work events:

June 12th at 9:00-Rockridge Pond and Guernsey drainage improvement.  Meet at Rockridge Pond on Hundreds Circle.  These two projects should take about 90 minutes.

June 19th at 9:00-Centennial Reservation chute alternate.  Meet at parking lot on Oakland St.

We could use some young, strong bodies for these projects.

The NRC continues to work with Boulder Brook Reservation abutters about encroachment issues.

Once the 27 Washington St and Weston Rd parking projects are completed we may order new map houses for these locations.

I will contact Olin College about improving the Sudbury Path west of their main parking lot.

This will be my last year as Chairman of the Trails Committee.  It is time to give another member the chance to lead this group of volunteers who have done a great job of creating and maintaining the well used and appreciated Wellesley Trails network.  A new chair should be elected at our next meeting on Tuesday, June 1st at 7:30.
