TRAILS COMMITTEE
MEETING MINUTES
June 29, 2010
Attendees: Denny Nackoney, Miguel Lessing, Peter Rovick, Bob White
The Fall walk schedule was discussed and decided on; Sept. 25th Morses Pond, Oct 16th Guernsey, Oct 24 Kid's Trails Day with geo-caching in the Town Forest., Nov 6 Sudbury. The Sudbury walk will be a one-way walk and we may need extra cars. Denny, Diane, Peter and Joan will select the geo-cache locations and prepare the write-ups.
The final FY10 budget was discussed. We have carry-over capital and we did not spend all of our operating funds. We have $4,000 in operating funds for FY11.
The Lower Falls RR bridge construction should begin in July. Once the bridge and paths are complete at 27 Washington we may want to put a map house here.
Diane and I attended an MLP Board meeting to ask for trails parking in the Weston/Linden substation property. The Board had several issues which should be resolved over the summer. Diane will discuss parking signage with the Selectmen's Office. We will meet with the
MLP Board in September and I expect a favorable response. We may want to put a map house at this property.
All preliminary design plans for the three proposed uses for the St James property show a path from the parking lot to the Crosstown Trail. The plans also show trail parking. Note that any
development of this property is several years away.
Once the RT16/Rt. 9 bridge project is complete, Denny will remark the Crosstown Trail on the south, Library side, of Washington St.
At our next meeting we will discuss the Crosstown street crossings in Lower Falls.
I will meet with the DPW to discuss work at Centennial and the Guernsey Path.
Since the Selectmen have banned sandwich boards from the usual locations at the Rotary, Rec Building and Downtown sites, Peter will discuss alternate locations with the Selectmen Office.
Miguel will meet with the Selectmen to discuss encroachment issues along the Crosstown Trail. He will also meet with the DPW to discuss their signage along the trails network.
Since there appear to be only a few options to cover up the graffiti on the Waban Arches and the MWRA is not very interested in the problem we will not be actively pursuing options to removing the graffiti.
Our next meeting will be Tuesday September 7th at 7:30.
